George Corley Wallace, Jr. was the Governor of Alabama for two nonconsecutive terms and two consecutive terms: from 1963-1967, 1971-1979, and 1983-1987. In the Forrest Gump film, he is seen during his famous Stand in the Schoolhouse Door on June 11, 1963 at the University of Alabama, attempting to block black students from entering the school. Wallace also had an unsuccessful run for the presidency, and an unsuccessful attempt was made to assassinate him, which left him paralyzed. Both of these events are discussed in the film.
